Steam's PvE Survival Crafting Fest runs through September 7 at 10 a.m. Pacific, bringing together games built around gathering resources, constructing bases and surviving hostile worlds alone or cooperatively.

Sons of the Forest is the dramatic price cut

Sons of the Forest is $8.99 in the U.S., 70% off its $29.99 list price. Its island mixes exploration, construction and horror, with online co-op for players who would rather face its cannibals together.

Different ways to build and survive

Soulmask is 35% off and focuses on recruiting and controlling a tribe across ancient open worlds. Craft the World approaches the idea from the side, combining fortress construction, dwarven management and defense; its base game is 85% off and its DLC is also discounted. These alternatives keep the guide from repeating the same few survival hits that dominate every event.
